GOP Sen. Lindsey Graham is warning President Donald Trump to act quickly to save the territory of Puerto Rico, saying that the president should not wait for an investigation to take place and that he should do everything possible to save it.
Graham said Monday that Trump is “doing everything he can to save” Puerto Rico.
He said the president has been “doing what he can” to save as many people as possible.
“He has been doing everything he possibly can to try and save Puerto Ricans, and we should do the same,” Graham said.
“The president has done everything he could to save and we’re doing everything we can to do the right thing, and that’s what we need to do.”
In an interview on ABC News’ “This Week,” Graham also said that Puerto Rico is “a real threat to the U.S.” and that Puerto Ricos are “losing faith” in their government.
“I’m telling you, this is a real threat, and it’s going to take the president to do everything he is capable of doing to save them,” Graham added.
“If the president doesn’t do that, he is putting Puerto Ricas people at risk.”
Puerto Rico’s president has said he would wait for a federal investigation to determine whether any of his officials played any role in the deaths of at least 6,500 people and that there is no evidence that the U of S. helped finance or cover up the death toll.
